Burglary results in arrest of local man
Dustin Tuggle is charged with multiple burglaries in the Juniper Canyon area
By Jason Chaney
A Prineville man was arrested and charged with multiple burglaries on Friday afternoon.
Deputies from the Crook County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Oregon State Police arrested Dustin Tuggle, 34, after one of the burglary victims asked for the suspect's identification and he obliged.
"He was caught by one victim in their home," Sergeant Russ Wright with the Sheriff's Office said. "The victim asked for his identification because the suspect said he was in the house looking for his lost dog. The suspect then gave it to him and after he left the victim called us."
Tuggle has been charged with four counts of burglary occurring throughout the past six months, Wright said, but added that the investigation is still ongoing and "cases are still under investigation with (Tuggle) as the person of interest."
According to Wright, Tuggle appeared to have a clean criminal record prior to these charges.
The burglaries he was charged with all happened in the Juniper Canyon area. Wright pointed out that a lot of the homes were vacant because the residents are on vacation for the winter.
In a court appearance on Monday afternoon, Tuggle could not enter a plea because the burglary charges are Class A felonies.
"Before the plea can be entered the case must be presented before a grand jury and an indictment returned," said Crook County Circuit Court Judge Gary Williams.
In addition to the four counts of burglary, Tuggle was also charged with one count of criminal mischief in the first degree, a Class B misdemeanor.
According to Crook County District Attorney Daina Vitolins, Tuggle's case will be presented to the grand jury on Thursday. If the grand jury indicts Tuggle, he will enter a plea at an arraignment scheduled for Friday morning at 11:30 a.m.
Tuggle's bail was set at $20,000.
