MYRTLE CREEK: Four more officials have recently resigned over new financial disclosure rules implemented by the Oregon Government Ethics Commission.
Bill Burnett, Kenneth Hays and Barry Robinson served on the Planning Commission and submitted letters of resignation last month. Ken Brouillard served on the City Council and resigned May 2.
The expanded financial disclosure forms were due April 15.
“The ultra intrusive state questionnaire, unreasonable deadlines and penal consequences proved too great for a volunteer position where my only goal is to help improve my community,” wrote Robinson in his letter of resignation.
Burnett and Hays expressed similar concerns in their letters.
Brouillard was going on his tenth year as a city councilor.
“The whole thing just soured me,” he said.
The city is accepting applications for the four open seats. One seat on the Planning Commission may be filled by someone who lives outside the city but within its urban growth boundary.
Applications are available at Myrtle Creek City Hall, 207 N.W. Pleasant St.
