City Councilor Tom Munroe cuts the ribbon on the model home at Riverwalk Friday.
Cottage Grove got a firsthand look at its newest housing development Friday.
The Chamber of Commerce, local officials and perspective homeowners convened for a ribbon cutting at the model home of Riverwalk, the 73-home subdivision soon to be located near the Highway 99/Harrison St. intersection.
City Councilor Tom Munroe, who cut the ribbon, congratulated the assembled Hayden Homes employees in advance for “turning an eyesore into an asset for this community.” Guests toured the model home, which is constructed in the Kokanee design style, one of four to be offered and constructed at the Riverwalk site. Riverwalk will cater to first-time homebuyers, its builders say, with prices that begin at $159,990 for a Willow model and end at the top-of-the-line Silverton model, which sells for $229,990.
Hayden Homes real estate agent Josh Dopp, who will manage sales at the site, was present for the ribbon cutting and will spend five days a week at the model home. Dopp reported four homes under construction on the remainder of the block occupied by the model home; these homes will showcase each model to be featured at Riverwalk and should be completed by early February. Dopp estimated three months’ construction time on each subsequent home following city issuance of the necessary building permits. Dopp said homes will be sold and built at the buyer’s request as they sell. He reports interest in the homes, though none have yet sold.
“As far as the economy goes, we’re in the best place you can be, affordable housing,” Dopp said.
Also present at the ribbon cutting was Project Manager Travis Mills, who oversees home construction.
“It’s been smooth running,” Mills said of the process. “The City has been pleasant to deal with and we’ve had great views and good weather.”
Guests shared positive remarks regarding the layout of the model home, particularly its wide entryway. and were also able to peruse literature about rent-to-own, money match and work-to-own programs, which Hayden Homes touts as alternative methods to finance their homes.
